‘FBI was executing search warrant’
The Federal Bureau of Investigation in Honolulu affirmed over the weekend that its agents executed a search warrant on Saipan last Tuesday at the accounting and tax service company RR & Associates Corp. for the CNMI.
In her reply to Saipan Tribune’s inquiry, FBI spokesperson Michele Ernst confirmed that the FBI executed the search warrant on Saipan last March 16, but declined to comment further as per standard procedure. The FBI and most law enforcement agencies typically decline to reveal specifics of ongoing investigations and inquiries. Ernst said that due to the nature of the ongoing investigation, they have no further comments.
Photos that were widely circulated on social media last Tuesday showed FBI agents taking boxes—later confirmed to be client information—from the RR & Associates Corp. office in Garapan. It was not learned what the visit was all about as the investigation continues to evolve.
In an interview last Tuesday with Rufo Mafnas, who co-owns RR & Associates, he said the boxes involved confidential client tax information but he was not able to comment further.
FBI agents were carrying boxes and transferring them to a silver Ford F-150 pickup truck. Bystanders in the area and Mafnas said there were four FBI agents who came to collect what they needed.
