CHCC implements electronic vital registration system
The Commonwealth Healthcare Corp., through Axiell ALM Inc., a software vendor and consultant that specializes in software for registries and vital records, has successfully implemented the CNMI’s first Electronic Vital Registration System on Dec. 31, 2020.
This major milestone achievement is in line with management’s commitments and efforts in modernizing health information technologies at CHCC, leapfrogging the CNMI, the first in our region, with automated electronic capabilities, to securely transmit vital events information to the National Centers for Health Statistics. With the new EVRS, the following are some of the key initiatives envisioned by the management from this project:
Enables the CNMI to participate in Social Security Administration’s Enumeration at Birth Program. The EAB is a program that allows parents to complete applications for Social Security Numbers for their newborns as part of the CHCC birth registration process;
Enables Tinian and Rota health centers to have Web access to the EVRS system;
Enables the CNMI to participate in the exchange of information with other approved stakeholders (states, local, and federal agencies) through the online Electronic Verification of Vital Events system;
Increased vital record security and fraud prevention;
Increased system interoperability for system integration with other CHCC data systems;
Improved morbidity and mortality surveillance program to monitor population health status;
Increased collaboration and efficiency of vital record reporting throughout the CNMI as well as disaster recovery and immediate service restoration;
Decreases reliance on paper-forms for health and vital statistics processes.
The EVRS implementation project has been funded and supported by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Centers for Health Statistics, and the National Association for Public Health Statistics and Information Systems, our non-profit partner organization representing vital records and public health statistics offices.
