SIS 1 takes top seed in grass v-ball

Saipan International School 1 took the top seed after sweeping all its games as the 2021 Co-ed Middle School Grass Volleyball League kicked off last Monday at the Commonwealth Ports Authority Airport Field.

SIS 1 is followed in the team standings by Hopwood Middle School who holds a win-loss standing of 5-1 after the first round. Tied for the No. 3 spot in the overall standings are Agape Christian School and Tinian Middle School, both holding 4-2 records.

In its first game last Monday, SIS 1 went head-to-head against ChaCha Oceanview Middle School. SIS 1 overpowered its foe, 21-11. SIS 1 moved on to face Hopwood Middle School beating them, 21-17. SIS 1 later faced DanDan Middle School 2 and gained an easy 21-7 victory.

SIS 1 then faced off against Grace Christian Academy 1 and nipped the latter, 21-10. SIS 1 crossed paths with Tinian Middle School next with TMS facing the same fate as all of SIS 1’s previous opponents with SIS 1 hammering the team, 21-10. SIS 1 then closed off the first round with a match against SIS 2. SIS 1 showed no mercy, conquering their sister-team 21-11.

Hopwood, meanwhile, triumphed over all its opponents not named SIS 1. In the match against DMS 2, Hopwood pounded its opponent 21-8. Hopwood came head-to-head against Francisco M. Sablan Middle School 1 and came out victorious with a win of 21-11. Hopwood then dominated ChaCha, 21-3.

Hopwood then went up against ACS and trounced them, 21-11. In its final match of the kick-off games last Monday, Hopwood came up against SIS 2 and bested them, 21-11.

ACS tied for Top 3 after topping four of its six opponents. ACS first defeated DMS 2, 21-6, before outclassing FMS 2, 21-10. ACS then beat GCA 2, 21-17, before crushing ChaCha, 21-8.

TMS, which is also vying for the Top 3, hammered Mount Carmel School, 21-0, then moved on to defeat SIS 2, 21-10. TMS also went up against GCA 2 and prevailed, 21-18. TMS also faced GCA 1, overpowering them, 21-16.

The second round of the league, organized by the Public School System Student Support Services Athletic Program, is scheduled this Monday at the CPA Airport Field.
