CNMI now has 144 positive cases
More than a week after the CNMI saw its highest number of single-day recorded cases of COVID-19, one more incoming traveler has been confirmed positive for COVID-19, raising the total number of cases in the CNMI to 144.
According to the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp., the individual was identified by travel screening and confirmed diagnosis through fifth day testing and was escorted safely to quarantine and was moved to the designated isolation area at the Kanoa Resort Alternative Care Site for close monitoring.
CHCC has already initiated contact tracing for the most immediate contacts of the new confirmed case, including passengers on the same flight.
Out of the 144 total COVID-19 cases, CHCC said 118 were identified by travel screening while 26 were local transmissions. Of the 118 identified by travel screening, 73 are from the U.S. mainland, 32 from a U.S. territory, and 13 from a foreign country. There is currently one person in isolation and the CNMI has had no local transmission in the past 196 days.
As of March 2, 7,827 individuals have finished their COVID-19 vaccination series, while 11,059 individuals have at least gotten their first COVID-19 vaccine shot.
In neighboring Guam, the U.S. territory’s Joint Information Center reported that five new cases of COVID-19 were identified out of 1,412 tests performed by the Department of Public Health and Social Services last Monday, March 1, and tests from additional labs from Friday, Feb. 26 to Monday, March 1. Three cases reported recent travel history and were identified in quarantine.
To date, there have been a total of 7,742 officially reported cases of COVID-19 in Guam with 131 deaths, 31 cases in active isolation, and 7,580 not in active isolation.
