Four of the Saipan Mayor’s Office staff completed four days of hands-on training in the operation of AutoCAD LT software, which will help them to independently implement the Saipan master map without the assistance of the contractor that developed the map.

The four staff include Janice Celis, Jaycee Rdialul, Mary Becky Repeki, and Zakariahs Reyes, who are all under the Saipan street naming and addressing division. According to Saipan Mayor’s Office’s Yuki Kishimoto, the engineering firm H.K. Pangelinan and Associates, LLC provided the three-week training.

According to Henry K. Pangelinan, president of the engineering firm, the Saipan Mayor’s Office staff are now capable of using AutoCAD for purposes of updating the master map, locating streets, generating street address numbers for newly identified and named streets, verifying address numbers, and more.

Kishimoto said that Jordan Mendiola of the engineering firm conducted the training. According to Mendiola, the trainees were quick learners who—through observation—enjoyed every minute of their four-day training.

Kishimoto said the staff greatly appreciates the opportunity that Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang provided to get them trained to improve their skills. She added that the staff feel confident that they have the skills to assure accurate implementation of the master map. The master map of Saipan was developed to guide the Saipan Mayor’s Office with its house numbering project.

For his part, Apatang said that this is a milestone in their effort to increase competence in how his office will deliver services to the public.

“I am very proud of their accomplishments. …Our staff dedicated three consecutive weeks, four days a week, eight hours each day to gain the necessary skills to operate the version of AutoCAD software that our contractor used to develop the Saipan street naming and addressing master map,” said Apatang.

He said that staff training will continue within the year and beyond as the Saipan Mayor’s Office shift to developing its Global Information System mapping database system, which will be the ultimate application for the street naming and addressing master map.

“While this AutoCAD training is over, my street naming and addressing division staff are currently being trained on the operation of GIS mapping application for two hours a week,” said Apatang.
