The house numbering program under the Saipan Mayor’s Office has already given numbers to houses and establishments in the most southern part of the island.
According to Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang, they have completed assigning numbers to houses and establishments in Koblerville, parts of San Vicente, Chalan Kanoa, and Susupe. They are now working in Dan Dan and remaining areas in San Vicente.

Apatang said that when they are done in both villages, they will go back to the previous villages to check the houses that were missed because they were not home.

While everything is going great, Apatang said they have also been running into problems with some villages because some of the properties are subdivided or not recorded, which needs to be corrected. Each house and establishment will receive a letter, number, and street name on it.

It was learned that those who live in a compound will get the same number ending with A, B, C, D, etc. In the case of San Antonio Church, there are three buildings on one property such as the priest’s house, the social hall and church, and the sisters and nuns’ house. This means that each building will get the number, 3657, with a letter A, B, and C at the end. This will help people, or postal services, identify each building.

In a previous interview with project manager Lee Tenorio, he said the home numbering system will be most beneficial for first responders when they need to assist in any emergency.

This project requires sending out people to every home and assigning numbers to each home. They will be giving homeowners a letter that gives them their street address and number and some samples that shows them how to put up the numbers on their houses or home units.

The house number that the homeowner will then affix to their house will be a minimum of 4 inches in height and up to 6 inches, with a thickness that is more than 3/8-inch. Owners would have to comply with these specifications set for the posting of the new addresses so that people passing by from the road could see the number, even if the house or the building is a few feet away from the road.

Apatang assures that they have people working on the house numbering program every day and hopes to see the program completed by the end of the year.
