CNMI records 135th COVID-19 case
An additional COVID-19 case was reported in the CNMI yesterday, bringing the Commonwealth’s total coronavirus cases to 135. The Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. said the individual was identified by travel screening and confirmed diagnosis through fifth day testing upon arrival.
The individual has been safely in quarantine and was moved to the designated isolation area at the Kanoa Resort Alternative Care Site for close monitoring. CHCC also said it has already initiated contact tracing for the most immediate contacts of the new confirmed case, including passengers on the same flight.
Out of the 135 total COVID-19 cases in the CNMI so far, 109 were identified by travel screening while 26 were local transmissions. Of the 109 identified by travel screening, 65 are from the U.S. mainland, 32 from a U.S. territory, and 12 are from a foreign country. There are currently two persons in isolation and the CNMI has had no local transmission for the past 182 days.
In other news, CHCC mourned the passing of Federated States of Micronesia Health Secretary Dr. Livinson Taulung. “We extend our condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and our brothers and sisters in FSM. CHCC colleagues who had the fortunate opportunity to work with Secretary Taulung consistently returned to Saipan with such great admiration for his steadfast support of FSM building local capacity for all health services,” a statement from CHCC read. “We have lost a giant among us, but let us continue to band together to keep going down the pathway of self-reliance we have walked with Secretary Taulung.” (Saipan Tribune)
