LITERARY NOOK

Sashimi and Me

Share

Ask of any food, “What is your greatest wish?”
I say, “Yellow-fin sashimi is my go-to dish.”
When my belly aches for something delish,
I always look for that special tuna fish.

They call tuna, “Chicken of the Sea” understand?
Sure, but no one calls chicken, “Tuna of the Land.”
True, golden brown thighs entice my appetite.
On my plate, they are a most welcome sight.

But what counts is how it comes to be my meal.
To my way of thinking, we got to keep it real.
Frozen chicken parts taken out of an ice-box?
Or freshly caught fish straight from the docks?

Squeeze luscious lime on fine firm red meat.
Add soy sauce and you’re almost complete.
Drop in little red hot peppers, hell yes!
Sprinkle in green onions, be my guest.

Watching this magical mix, I sit in ecstasy
Staring at the sashimi right in front of me
Just long enough for the chemicals to work.
Then I bite and my taste buds go berserk.
