Guam sees low CAR score
Guam saw its lowest COVID-19 Area Risk score last week, even as 26 people tested positive for COVID-19 last Feb. 1.
According to the Joint Information Center, 21 new cases of COVID-19 were identified out of 895 test that was performed by the Department of Public Health and Social Service last Sunday, Jan. 31, plus tests from additional laboratories from Jan. 29 to 31.
Eighteen cases reported recent travel history and were identified in quarantine, and one case was identified through contact tracing.
Guam has been seeing a trend of fewer people testing positive for COVID-19 in the last few weeks. Guam’s CAR’s score, which indicates the prevalence of infections in an area, reached 0.6 last week. Guam’s long-term CAR score goal is to be under 2.5.
In the middle part of 2020, Guam saw back-to-back deaths every other day but the territory has lately been seeing fewer deaths. The last reported death from JIC a week ago when Guam saw its 129th death, a 50-year-old man who had underlying health conditions. He died at Guam Memorial Hospital at 2:07am last Monday, JIC reported. He was admitted to the hospital on Dec. 22 and was a known positive case.
As of Feb. 2, JIC reported that Guam continues its vaccination roll-out and community-based testing.
