The Superior Court has imposed a $50,000 cash bail on a man who has a number of pending drug cases and was arrested for another drug-related offense.

At a preliminary hearing, Superior Court Associate Judge Teresa Kim-Tenorio imposed a $50,000 cash bail on Derek Camacho Reyes, 39.

Kim-Tenorio remanded Reyes back to the custody of the Department of Corrections immediately after his preliminary hearing.

After police seized drugs and drug paraphernalia from his vehicle, Reyes admitted that he is an addict who smokes “ice” or methamphetamine.

Reyes still has pending drug cases from 2017 and 2018, but recently graduated from the Drug Court Program.

According to court documents, on Jan. 12, the Drug Enforcement Task Force seized 0.9 gram of white crystalline substance that tested positive for methamphetamine, one glass pipe containing ice, and 16 grams of marijuana from Reyes’ Jeep Wrangler.

In a freely given statement to police, Reyes stated that he had smoked ice with Juan Sablan Ada Jr., another alleged drug offender, before being approached by DETF officers outside Toha Supermarket in San Antonio.

At the time, Ada was in Reyes’ parked Jeep Wrangler while Reyes was in the supermarket.

Reyes was charged with illegal possession of a controlled substance while Ada was separately charged in connection with the case.
