Batallones advances to SGA Ace of Aces

Rene Batallones punched the last ticket to the Saipan Golfers Association Ace of Aces after topping the group’s December Ace Tournament last month at the Kingfisher Golf Links.
The 8-handicapper recorded a 40 on the front and 41 on the back for a gross 81 and net 73. He had a similar net score with October Ace Alex Tudela, but won the scorecard tiebreak to make it to the club championship, which will feature SGA’s 12 monthly winners in 2020.
Battling Batallones for the SGA Ace of Aces title are Attorney General Edward Manibusan (January Ace) Jung Eun Teack (February), Nick Sablan (March), Juan “Pan” Guerrero (April), Das Krishnan (May), Larry Deleon Guerrero (June), Steve Balakrishna (July), Ed Sablan (August), John “Nanni” Cruz (September), Tudela (October), and Tony Deleon Guerrero (November).
The SGA Ace of Aces will be played for two rounds with the first set for Jan. 17 at the Kingfisher Golf Links and the second at the newly re-opened Coral Ocean Point on Jan. 24.
Meanwhile, the 10-handicapper Tudela posted a 42 in the first nine holes and 41 in the last for a gross 83, while Guerrero joined the former and Batallones in the Top 3 of the final Ace of Aces qualifier after delivering a net 75. Guerrero holds a 15 handicap and tallied a 44 on the front nine and 46 on the back for a gross 90.
Besides making it to the Top 3 of the December Ace event, Guerrero also made a closest to the pin shot on hole No. 6. Other closest to the pin winners were Teack, Batallones, and Nick Sablan on hole Nos. 8, 12, and 15, respectively.
Guerrero also hit one of the two longest drives in the tournament, recording the feat on the par-4, 423-yard No. 18. Rick Kautz had the same achievement, making the longest drive on the 407-yard No. 2—another par-4 hole.
