Two courtrooms reopen at Guma Hustisia

The CNMI Judiciary has reopened two of the six courtrooms of the Guma Hustisia, two years since they were closed back in 2018.

Since last week, the Superior Court has been using courtrooms 202 and 205 of the Guma Hustisa, in line with the court’s deadline to fully reopen the courthouse to the public by June this year.

The Supreme Court on the first floor remains closed due to its close proximity to the ongoing construction of the COVID-19 Screening and Security Zone at the front entryway of the Guma’ Hustisia.

According to one of the men working at the construction site, the project will be completed soon but they don’t have a set date yet.

In a press release from the Commonwealth Judiciary Administrative Office, construction of the COVID-19 Screening and Security Zone, SSZ, is set for completion in mid-January 2021.

The SSZ is being built using federal funds through the CARES Act. The judiciary received its allocation of CARES Act funds back in June 2020.
