COP golf course reopens this week
E-Land Group of Companies’ Coral Ocean Resort Golf Course in San Antonio, formerly known as the Coral Ocean Golf Point, will start welcoming golf enthusiasts this week starting Friday, Jan. 15.
To kick off the much awaited reopening, a ceremony will be held on Thursday, Jan. 14, which will be attended by Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and other officials, followed by a golf tournament.
The reopening of the world-class golf course comes after over two years of repair and reconstruction from the devastation caused by Super Typhoon Yutu. “I’m delighted to announce that after all the hard work to revive the hotel from the damage caused by Super Typhoon Yutu, Coral Ocean Golf Resort Golf Course is ready to open on Jan, 15,” said E-Land Sales and Marketing manager Katy Hung.
COPGC will only open the golf course and not its hotel operations just yet.
According to Saipan Tribune archives, the repair of the hotel started in May 2019. “…Because of the damage to some areas of the resort were so severe, they had to demolish many of the structures and build them from the ground up. …However, areas like the lobby will not be demolished and will be brought back to its state prior to Yutu,” said Gloria Cavanagh who is the general manager of Pacific Islands Club Saipan, a sister-hotel of COPGC.
“We are going bring it back to where it was originally. It was newly renovated in 2011 and it was still pretty new and it was gorgeous, especially the lobby area, so we’re planning to bring it back to that. …We have to look at doing the other 200 rooms. We were at the point where it was already in the planning stages but, after the storm, we had to work on putting everything back in order first,” Cavanagh added.
Located on the southern tip of Saipan, the COP Golf Course is known not only for its challenging fairways and putting greens but also for its beautiful views and breeze coming from the nearby sea, which is why it is considered one of the beautiful golf courses in the Pacific region.
COPGC is now open for inquiries and reservations. Green fee is only $45 during weekdays and $50 during weekends. For more information, call (670) 234-7000 from 7am to 1pm.
