Charter flight to aid stranded Taiwan citizens in Guam, NMI
A Taiwan-bound humanitarian charter flight on Jan. 11 will bring to Taipei approximately 50 passengers who are either in need of medical care or stranded in Guam and on Saipan.
In an email from Taiwan’s representative office in Guam, it said the charter flight’s passengers include Guam residents who are unable to seek off-island medical treatment because of the COVID-19 crisis and the canceled direct flights, plus Taiwan citizens who were working in Guam and Saipan who have lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic and intend to return to their homeland in Taiwan.
Regular flights between Taiwan and Guam were suspended last March 2020. Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the passengers will be subject to normal coronavirus regulations.
This flight is a collaboration between the Taiwan and Economic Cultural Office in Guam led by Director-General Paul Chen and the government of Guam, with the assistance of the United Chinese Association of Guam, the Guam International Airport Authority, the Guam Memorial Hospital, Taiwan’s Ministry of Health and Welfare, and Taiwanese communities in the territories, among others.
The flight will be operated by China Airlines and will depart Guam at 3:30pm ion Jan. 11 and arrive in Taipei, Taiwan at 5:55pm.
It was learned that the passengers will include five Guamanian patients and four of their family members.
