With still more than a month left before the deadline, 13 teams and two individuals have completed the Run The Marianas.
Saipan International School 10th Graders were the first ones to finish the 460-mile virtual race from Farallon De Pajaros to Rota, achieving the feat in November last year. Joining them on the finishers list were English Academy, SIS Grade 5/6, SIS 8th Grade, Mile High Club, The Cheatah’s Army, Grace Christian Academy Rota, Run Guam, Oceania Athletics, Macau Social Runners, Saipan Home School Co-Op, and TMAC.

TMAC, made up of Tania Tania, Malika Miyawaki, Alex Park, and Clayton Izuka, and Too Slow for Comfort were the two recent squads to log the required miles in the SIS and Northern Marianas Athletics-organized event that will conclude on Feb. 14.
In the individual race, Rommel Buenaflor reached Rota late last month to become the first solo finisher. Marilou Carlos came in next after completing the “course” early this month.
Race director Dr. Ron Snyder said that participants in the Run The Marianas, as of last Tuesday, have logged 15,644 miles.
“That is 63% of the distance around the globe at the equator,” Snyder said.

Nearly 400 runners signed up for the race that started last Oct. 15 and features 13 other island landing spots besides Farallon De Pajaros and Rota. The race’s other stops are Maug Landing (42-mile mark), Asuncion (67), Agrihan (130), Pagan (175), Alamagan (214), Guguan (234), Sarigan (276), Anatahan (300), Farallon De Midinilla (325), Saipan (376), SIS (388), Tinian (397), and Aguijan (410).
With many teams finishing the race with still over a month left before the deadline, a couple of them have decided to take on the “course” again—this time backwards.
“SIS Grade 5/6 and EA Academy have both turned around and run all the way back from Rota to Farallon de Pajaros,” Snyder said.
