Prims take part in 3-day cleanup of Bird Island

Saipan World Resort’s lifeguards, called Prims, kicked off their three-day team-building event by cleaning up the Bird Island.
The team-building cleanup started last Wednesday, April 23, and ended Friday, April 25. It sent out different teams each day so that all the Prims got involved in the activity.
The Prims have always conducted quarterly team-building events for the lifeguards to be involved in the community.
World Resort water park manager Ed Johnson said the cleanup is in line with April being Environmental Awareness Month.
“As part of the Environmental Awareness Month we decided to do the cleanup for our team building,” Johnson said.
According to World Resort water park supervisor Ann Hix they collected old nets, ropes, glass bottles, Styrofoam plates, and many other trash that were on the beaches and jungles near Bird Island.
“Trash were collected from everywhere in the area. From the jungle to the shores, it is dangerous and also a bad sight for tourists. The island’s a bird sanctuary so we should keep it clean,” she said.
World Resort water park supervisor Vener Urena said that each team had trash bags per person.
“On the first day we had a total of 10 people for the first team, the second team had nine, and the third team on the last day was 11,” Urena said.
According to Hix, more than 800 lbs of trash was collected.
Urena noted that each team of Prims gathered three to four bags of trash each day.
Hix noted that the cleanup was a team effort and that they succeeded in both their duties as Prims for World Resort’s Wave Jungle and as helpers of the environment.
Urena noted that all the hard work the Prims put into their team-building activity will be rewarded as they will be holding a party soon.
