Last week, three members of the five-member installation crew for the Francisco C. Ada-Saipan International Airport passenger loading bridges arrived in the CNMI. One member arrived on Dec. 14 and was released from quarantine this past Saturday. The other two members may be released from quarantine this week, if they also test negative for COVID-19. The fourth member is expected to arrive shortly, and the fifth member is expected to arrive in January 2021. The fourth and fifth members are also subject to the CNMI’s quarantine requirements.

The members of the installation team currently on-island will begin inventory of the bridge components this week. Next week, the team will begin installing the rotundas and small walkways for Gates 2, 3, and 6. Once those items are complete, the team will begin installation of Gate 6, which is the primary bridge used by United Airlines.

This project was originally slated for completion in November 2020. However, due to the previous subcontractor’s insurance issues and issues with the CNMI’s quarantine requirements, this project was not completed by that deadline. Through coordination between CPA, the contractor, and the construction manager, a different installation subcontractor was engaged to complete the project.

The project is now slated for completion in spring 2021. (PR)
