An allegedly intoxicated driver caused his car to flip over and fall into a ditch last Friday along As Terlaje Hill near the accident-prone traffic signal lamp post by the Northern Marianas College intersection.

Department of Public Safety spokesperson Dre Pangelinan said in a statement to Saipan Tribune that, as of Saturday evening, the only information he has of the incident is that it was related to DUI, or driving while under the influence of alcohol.

“At this time, the only info I have is that it occurred sometime at 1am and it was DUI-related. Once I get the official report from the traffic investigator, I will have more,” he said.

Pangelinan said there were no reported fatalities as of Saturday evening.

According to Saipan Tribune archives, the CNMI saw its first traffic-related fatality last month following a car accident along As Terlaje Hill when a car slammed into the traffic signal lamp post at the NMC intersection.

The incident brought the total number of people who have died in crashes at this specific intersection to three.
