The entire Marianas woke up yesterday to a drizzly and windy morning and everyone wondered if there was an approaching storm. The National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam, assured, though, that it was just bad weather moving through the region.

Based on information received from the NWS and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center-State Warning Point, there was a flash flood warning for Rota yesterday that lasted until noon.

NWS said that its doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across Rota and that flash flooding was likely to begin shortly, affecting small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and other drainage and low-lying areas.

At the same time, NWS warned of a high risk for rip currents through yesterday afternoon in Guam and on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota along east facing reefs. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

Surf for east facing reefs were expected to go up to 9 feet. (PR)
