The public will be seeing temporary signup stations popping up in all the election districts on Saipan for voters to sign the referendum(s) and economic initiative for the ballot in November, according to the Concerned Citizens Against Casinos.
The referendums seeks to require the government to immediately create an interisland public service ferry system connecting all four populated islands of the Marianas, to create a Micronesian Cultural/Convention Center, to legalize marijuana for medical, medicinal and recreational use, the removal of poker machines from villages to increase revenues and to create an autonomous economic task force to influence and protect the future economic conditions within the Commonwealth.
The first station was set up on Saturday, directly across from Kagman Market. Over 30 plus people stopped and signed all the referendums and initiative in the two hours this station was set up, according to organizers.
“There were also a lot of horn blowers and promises to come back and sign so it looks very promising for the people to have a chance to decide in November as there are several groups and many individuals out there getting signatures. What impressed me the most was the enthusiasm voters displayed in signing the economic initiative,” said Ambrose Bennett of the Concerned Citizens Against Casinos.
