Over 300 grams of crystal methamphetamine, also known as “ice,” and other drugs were intercepted by CNMI Customs at the U.S. Post Office in Chalan Kanoa in the last 45 days.

Cocaine and LSD were among the other controlled substances that were imported via mail.

“Throughout the years we maintain collaboration with local and federal law enforcement agencies. Through a memorandum of understanding with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, we are able to coordinate resources to eliminate money laundering and the illicit importation, distribution, and possession of controlled substances,” said Customs director Jose C. Mafnas.

Customs continues to seize marijuana as well as edibles and THC paraphernalia. In January 2020, Customs seized over 2.12 lbs of crystal methamphetamine.

“Our goal is to eradicate the use, sale, and distribution of narcotics in the CNMI. While we [still have] a long way [to go], we can at least control what enters our island borders and reduce the street value crystal meth and other drugs,” added Mafnas. (PR)
