Tenela W. Peter, 20, who is charged with assault and battery waived her preliminary hearing that was scheduled for Wednesday. Peter is scheduled to be arraigned on Oct. 27 at 9am.

Superior Court Associate Judge Wesley Bogdan granted Peter’s request to be released on her own recognizance but imposed on her a 10pm to 6am curfew.

Peter was represented by assistant public defender Jean Nogues; assistant attorney general Erin Toolan appeared for the government.

Peter was arrested after allegedly assaulting a police officer while she was heavily intoxicated in the early hours of Oct. 11. According to court documents, Peter was seen by a police officer in the middle of the road shouting. As the police vehicle approached, she shouted profanities at the police officer and hit the passenger door of the vehicle.

Peter then allegedly tried to fight with the officer. The officer noted Peter had a strong odor of alcoholic beverages emanating from her. The police officer asked Peter to calm down but she allegedly rushed toward the officer instead and hits the officer with open hands.

The officer sustained scratches on the neck and forehead.

Peter initially resisted arrest but she was eventually subdued with the help of another police officer and her aunt.
