The Saipan Marianas Lions Club did their monthly beach cleanup last Oct. 18 at the Garapan Fishing Base, which the group has adopted and committed to cleaning regularly.

According to member Ladyvir Canape, the club has scheduled its monthly cleanup for the third week of every month in response to one of the Lions Club International’s global cause, which is taking care of the environment.

Along with Canape, there were 18 volunteers who collected 16 bags of trash. “Thank you for your continued support to all our endeavors and projects by helping us to promote it,” said Canape. “All members of SMLC and Leos of Saipan Marianas Alpha Leo Club are invited [to our monthly cleanup].”

SMLC also donated to the Tinian Elementary School last Oct. 1 some school and hygienic supplies that were funded by the club’s first GoFundMe fundraiser. A total of 231 students from Kindergarten to sixth grade will be able to avail of these products. Canape stated that these products were received by TES principal Lou Connie Manglona, Tinian Mayor Edwin Aldan, his wife Rosita from Tinian International Women’s Association, and other members of TIWA, and the Tinian community.

Canape says that they are still accepting donations, cash, or check (payable to Saipan Marianas Lions Club). Additionally, those who want more information can private message their Facebook page. The next batch of donations will go to Rota.

Canape also wants to acknowledge the donations from Blanca Imbo, Jhun Canape, Loisa Cabuhat, Wellington Ang, Henie Esmero, EnkhAmgalan Tserendorj, Josie Benavente, Eden Mercado, Jane Silapan, Allen and Susan Perez, Alma Basilgo, Daniel Yang, Annie Payne, Teresa Aldea Kane of Virginia, Marissa Reyes, Perlie Tolentino Santos, Emelio Uy, Mar Masilungan, and Beyond Limits 670 Car Club.
