Tropical Storm Chan-Hom to become a typhoon

As Tropical Storm Chan-Hom continues to move away from the Marianas, it continues to intensify and is forecasted to become a typhoon today.

According to National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam, as of 2pm yesterday Chan-Hom carries maximum sustained winds of up to 50mph and is expected to become a typhoon tonight.

Chan-Hom was seen moving west-northwest and away from the Marianas at 300 degrees at nine mph.

The center of Tropical Storm Chan-Hom was last seen located near latitude 24.0 degrees north and longitude 138.1 degrees east. This is about 790 miles northwest of Saipan, 850 miles north-northwest of Guam, and about 210 miles west-southwest of Iwo To Island.

NWS sees a slight increase of up to 10mph of forward speed is through Wednesday night.
