3K PUA checks ready for printing
To minimize delays, Finance converts to manual checks for those having bank account issues
Finance Secretary David DLG Atalig has disclosed that they are ready to print 3,000 more checks to Commonwealth recipients of Pandemic Unemployment Assistance.
Speaking at a radio news briefing Friday, Atalig said the batch that they’ve worked on and cleared covers Sept. 22 as latest pay date. He said they are ready to print the checks and just need the green light from the Department of Labor’s software vendor, Geographic Solutions Inc.
“This is about over 3,000 recipients that may be receiving checks, whether it’s their first submission or their weekly benefits,” he said.
Atalig also disclosed that a lot of people have converted to a manual check process and not direct deposit to their bank accounts. These are the ones who are having issues with their bank accounts and the transfer of the funds to the recipients’ accounts, whether it be an error in the routing number or, as he mentioned in the past, people who state that it’s a savings account when in fact it’s a checking account, among other issues.
To minimize the delays, Atalig said, they decided to just convert everyone in those categories or those having issues with their bank accounts into paper checks.
However, in order for them to do paper checks, Atalig said they need Geographic Solutions that Labor has contracted to give them that data to be able to print the checks.
He said they are just waiting for Geographic Solutions to provide them that manual check register that allows them to print these checks.
“I believe we have a batch this morning [last Friday] that we’re going to be doing and awaiting more as we get that information from Geographic Solutions. And we’ll print them as soon as possible and get those checks in the mail,” he said.
Finance has started to release $19 million more in PUA.
