Two-day retreat for trustees, corporate officers set in May
Corporate officers of the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp., along with members of the board of trustees, are set to hold a brainstorming session to finally complete its much-awaited strategic planning for the agency.
Anthony Raho, chairman of the board’s strategic planning panel, disclosed that participants are scheduled to get together for a two-day retreat, tentatively set on May 21-22, possibly at Laolao Bay Golf & Resort.
CHCC has contracted WestCare as its consultant for the strategic planning project using grant monies applied by the Pacific Island Health Officers Association for the CNMI. The grant is for the improvement of public health infrastructure that can be used to develop CHCC’s strategic plan. About $100,000 is available for the CNMI each year.
According to Raho, WestCare will be on island to facilitate the two-day event.
Raho said that after the hiring of the corporation’s CEO, the development of a strategic plan for the agency should have been the next priority of the organization.
“Developing the strategic plan is the second most important function of the board. WestCare is here to assist us to complete that task. I am hoping that in this group retreat, everyone will come prepared with their ideas and concept,” Raho told colleagues during last week’s board meeting.
The first day of the retreat is scheduled from 2pm to 6pm, while the second day is from 8am to 6pm.
Raho pointed out that the lack of a clear direction for the organization is the root cause of all problems it is currently facing.
“A lot of the problems we’re absorbing today are outcomes of no clear strategic plan or direction for the last 10 years of this facility. This [project] is something we need to contribute to, give input to, and shape the future of our public hospital,” added Raho.
WestCare will help develop both the agency’s “Three-Year Strategic Plan” and an interim plan.
