3rd tranche of child tax out; fourth batch is coming soon
Partial first batch of $5M income tax refunds may be out late this week
Finance Secretary David DLG Atalig disclosed that they have already released the third batch of child tax credits in the amount of $300,000 and that a fourth batch in the amount of $300,000 more is forthcoming.
In response to Saipan Tribune’s follow-up question yesterday, Atalig said they have released about $8 million in child tax credits to date.
He said the first batch of child tax credits was worth $6 million and the second batch was $1.5 million.
The secretary discussed the release of child tax credits during a radio news briefing last Friday. In that same briefing, Atalig also disclosed that they are preparing to release at the end of this week the first batch of income tax refunds. He said yesterday that this will be worth about $5 million.
“We are preparing the batch and, if all goes well, we will get it out by end of the week and taxpayers can expect something early next week,” he said.
Atalig said Friday that everyone should have received their child tax credits if they’re qualified for that.
“If they have not received their child tax credits, refunds, rebates, please contact Revenue and Tax. There might be a situation that there’s an issue with their tax return, and corrective measures need to be done in order to be able to release those funds to them,” he said.
With respect to income tax refunds, Atalig said they are preparing the batches and will release a partial of the first batch at the end of this week. He said they are just waiting for the transfer of some funds coming in and be allocating that as he promised a couple of weeks ago.
“As I mentioned in the past, as we receive reimbursements that we expect, we will release the additional batches as they come in,” Atalig said.
