Man who threatened Torres is arrested anew
The man who allegedly threatened to kill Gov. Ralph DLG Torres outside the Office of the Governor two weeks ago was arrested again for allegedly assaulting a police officer.
Pedro Ayuyu, who was released on bail for an ongoing case after threatening to kill the governor, was arrested again after allegedly punching an officer in the stomach on Sept. 30.
Ayuyu was arrested two weeks ago for disturbing the peace at the Office of the Governor but was later released to his brother who served as his third-party custodian.
At the bail hearing last Thursday, Ayuyu’s counsel, assistant public defender Vena Seelam, asked the court to release the defendant to his third-party custodian but Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth Govendo denied the request and remanded Ayuyu to the Department of Corrections.
Govendo also maintained the $10,000 cash bail and ordered Ayuyu to return to court on Oct. 8 at 1:30pm for a preliminary hearing.
The government, through assistant attorney general Heather Barcinas, argued that Ayuyu’s third-party custodian is not suitable for Ayuyu as he allowed the defendant to leave their home. She added that she would file a motion to disqualify Ayuyu’s brother as third-party custodian.
According to court documents, a Department of Public Safety detective saw Ayuyu seated in the driver’s side of a parked vehicle throwing out two empty beer cans.
The detective instructed a police officer not to allow Ayuyu to drive the vehicle while he went to look for his third-party custodian because he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
The police officer asked Ayuyu if he had a family member who could drive him home but Ayuyu replied in an aggressive manner and said that he did not need anyone to drive for him.
Ayuyu then cussed at the officer and when he told Ayuyu to calm down, Ayuyu replied, “Don’t tell me what to do!”
The officer tried to move away from Ayuyu but he noticed that Ayuyu reached out for the car key and placed it in the ignition.
The officer then asked Ayuyu to turn his car off and told him that he was not under arrest and could leave anytime, but he could not operate his vehicle.
He said Ayuyu replied with profanities before aggressively opening his driver’s door and attempted to use the door to hit the officer. Ayuyu also allegedly pushed the officer three times and punched him in the stomach.
The officer then pepper sprayed Ayuyu and placed him under arrest. Ayuyu was charged with assault and battery.
