Cardiac arrest reportedly led to San Vicente crash
A man who was driving along Katbon Road in San Vicente last Monday reportedly had a “medical emergency” that led him to crashing his vehicle and later being pronounced dead on arrival at the Saipan hospital.
A Commonwealth Health Center physician declared the driver dead at 10:12am Monday due to sudden cardiac arrest.
According to the report the Department of Public Safety released about the incident, DPS received a 911 call on Monday, Sept. 7, 2020, at about 9am, reporting an auto-run off incident on Katbon Road in San Vicente, with the driver being unresponsive. Police dispatched to the scene saw an SUV that was tilted on its right side and stuck in a roadside stormwater basin about 12 feet deep. Officers tried to gain a response from the driver as they waited for medics. Once the medics arrived, they extracted the driver from the vehicle and tried to revive him as they rushed him to the Commonwealth Health Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
At this time the identity of the individual is being withheld in respect to the family. This case is under further investigation; however, based on witnesses’ statements and evidence gathered from the crash scene, the driver suffered some kind of medical emergency, which caused him to lose control of the vehicle, leading to the crash.
