The National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam predicts strong thunderstorms in the waters off Saipan.

Based on information received from the NWS and compiled at CNMI Emergency Operations Center-State Warning Point, the areas affected include Saipan coastal waters. Satellite imagery indicated strong thunderstorms capable of producing gusts to around 25 knots. These thunderstorms were located approximately 20 to 25 miles north and northeast of Saipan. The thunderstorms are moving slowly southeast.

Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 25 knots, locally higher waves, and lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until these storms pass. Frequent lightning is occurring with these storms. If caught on the open water stay below deck if possible. Keep away from ungrounded metal objects.

Report severe weather to the U.S. Coast Guard or nearest law enforcement agency. They will relay your report to the NWS. (PR)
