CEC to certify candidacies

The Commonwealth Election Commission board will meet on Tuesday to certify the candidates for the Nov. 3 mid-term or general elections.

CEC executive director Julita Villagomez said the board can now hold a meeting because there is now a quorum.

Villagomez said the commissioners are also expected to approve the layout of the ballots.

As this developed, CEC held a raffle drawing yesterday to determine the order in which candidates’ names will appear on the election ballot. The drawing was at the Rota Court House, Tinian Court House, and CEC office in Susupe.

Candidates unable to appear for the drawing were asked to provide CEC with a written authorization letter for the representative to draw a number on their behalf.

Sixty-six candidates have filed their candidacies, while two judges and a justice will also be on the ballots for retention on the bench.

The position for the U.S. delegate and 37 other government positions, including three from the Judiciary for retention, are up for grabs in the election. (Ferdie de la Torre)
