A couple of ideas

Reading the paper brings back many fond memories of how our community leaders used to react to matters of public interest in comparison to how they are handled today.
1. Keeping the villages clean and orderly. For instance, before, each quarter the mayor of Saipan, with the help of the village commissioners, would conduct a “village inspection,” where each village is rated by a point system on the cleanliness of villages and the respective village commissioner would receive a reward from the Mayor’s Office.
Perhaps each of our respective precinct might consider doing an identical system. Either the Chamber of Commerce or similar organization might wish to take on the responsibility to provide the certificate of award and let the mayor of Saipan give the certificates the first, second, and third-place winners.
Member of our Legislature might wish to take on the program to ensure that each of our precinct be involved in the precinct cleaning program.
2. We badly need to develop an Agricultural Development Program.
During the military government days, bulldozers and tractors were made available to help farmers venture into an agriculture program. The equipment was owned by the military government and the rental of the equipment was negligible. We should look into the possibility of “re-venturing” into this program so we can assist farmers in agricultural development. I am aware that Japan buys tons of agricultural goods from islands to the south of us. I learn that Japan will buy all the chirimen kabocha we can produce. The demand is especially true during fall and winter seasons.
I am merely sharing my own ideas in hope that the powers-that-be will take on the task and develop our agricultural economy.
