The Giving Table to serve San Antonio next

The good Samaritan group Giving Table will next move to San Antonio after giving away relief items in Dandan and San Vicente villages the past six Fridays.

This past Friday, the Giving Table gave out about 200 bags of relief goods. “We opened early due to the long lines of cars and gave out our last bag by 8:40am,” said Rep. Edwin K. Propst (D-Saipan).

The Giving Table is a network of friends who donate canned goods and nonperishable food items to anyone who needs them. Whatever is collected is given out at different places on austerity Fridays. There is no need to sign up for anything. Residents may be able to pull up and take what they need.

“There are a lot of people in the community who still don’t have jobs and also do not qualify for federal assistance under the Nutrition Assistance Program and the CNMI Women, Infants and Children Program,” said Propst.

“All donations have come from social networks of friends and family members. It has grown through word-of-mouth. My hope is to see a non-profit or group lead this or something similar for every village while we see hundreds of families struggling due to this pandemic.”

Additionally, Propst said “I am motivated by the good we see in our community on a daily basis. Every good deed helps, and those who need the help the most can be helped if we all do a little.” (Chevy Alipio)
