The Asia Pacific Academy of Sciences, Science Education, and Environmental Management, or APASEEM, will be hosting today, Aug. 6, 2020, two virtual presentations on local research efforts in the Saipan Lagoon concerning coral reefs.

The presentations will start at 10:30am and going until approximately 11:30am. APASEEM will be hosting the event in cooperation with local and federal resource management agencies. The public is invited and, as at all APASEEM gatherings, audience participation is encouraged.

“In an unusual move on our part and that of the speakers due to COVID 19 health concerns, both talks will be conducted entirely using telecommunication,” said APASEEM in a statement yesterday.

Both talks contribute to the knowledge gained at the Saipan Lagoon Coral Nursery Demonstration site. One will quantify coral wound healing rates. A second will be a talk concerning evaluation the efficacy of using 3D photogrammetry methods to monitor various aspects of the nursery itself.

The talks will be given online using Google Meet. The link for the talk is https://meet.google.com/rwm-wgdu-vgo

The first talk by Nikita Sridhar is a pilot study on the quantification of wound healing rates among coral species in CNMI nursery. Sridhar is an incoming senior at University of California Los Angeles with a major in Marine Biology and minor in Geographic Information Science and Technolo

The second talk by Jamon Jordan focuses on the development of photogrammetry SOP For quantification of coral growth in the CNMI nursery. Jordan is a rising senior from Georgia attending the University of Georgia and is on track to acquire a double major in Fisheries and Wildlife with an emphasis in Aquatic Science and Natural Resource Management and Sustainability with an emphasis in GIS and a minor in Ecology.
