The Saipan Marianas Lions Club did back-to-back Sunday cleanups at the Garapan Fishing Base and the Inos Peace Park and collected 19 trash bags of garbage.

SMLC president Ladyvir Canape said the hope is that these two consecutive Sunday cleanups would be the start of a regular activity for the group. “We are hoping to do this every Sunday. Our next location will be at the Laly 4 beach park in Chalan Kanoa.”

The club has also signed up for the International Coastal Cleanup for the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality. Its adopted area is the Garapan Fishing Base.

“This is our home. The CNMI is so uniquely beautiful, and we owe it to ourselves to take very good care of our place. We believe that if we do it consistently, other people in our community will see and determine themselves that it is a good deed,” said SMLC secretary Judy Mendieta.

Additionally, SMLC has an annual back-to-school project. They have set up a Gofundme account in order to buy school supplies. (Chevy Alipio)
