Two sex offenders plead guilty, get prison terms
Two sex offenders, including one caught on surveillance camera stealing a woman’s underwear from a clothesline, pleaded guilty yesterday in the Superior Court.
Renato Gaviola, 54, pleaded guilty to stalking in the second degree and to two counts of disturbing the peace. In a separate proceeding, David Bamba, 62, pleaded guilty to violation of the sex offender registry and to two counts of assault and battery (domestic violence).
Presiding Judge Roberto C. Naraja sentenced Gaviola to two years imprisonment, all suspended except for 60 days, and two years of probation.
Gaviola was ordered to perform 200 hours of community service, to have no contact with the victim and stay away from her home or her car, and to drink no alcohol.
Naraja sentenced Bamba to five years imprisonment, all suspended except for one year, and five years of probation upon release with 300 hours of community service, no contact with the victim or any child pursuant to the sex offender registry guidelines, and to drink no alcohol.
Chief Prosecutor John Bradley said Gaviola admitted to taking undergarments off of a clothesline in front of a home, masturbating on them, and then returning them on several occasions between December 2019 and January 2020.
Bradley said Gaviola also pleaded guilty to disturbing the peace for entering a car parked next to the victim’s home and masturbating inside on at least two separate occasions.
With respect to Bamba, the chief prosecutor said the defendant admitted to living with his girlfriend and three children—a violation of the sex offender registry rules. Bradley said Bamba also pleaded guilty to assault and battery—one for slapping a 13-year-old boy and the other for slapping his girlfriend last January on Tinian.
Bamba was convicted in 1986 of sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl. He was sentenced to 22 years in prison.
