DFEMS chief files candidacy to run as Rota senator
Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services Commissioner Dennis James Camacho Mendiola has filed his papers as an independent candidate for the lone Rota senatorial seat at this Nov. 3 election.
Commonwealth Election Commission executive director Julita A. Villagomez also disclosed yesterday that radio talk show host Glenn Hocog Manglona and Jim Michael Atalig have also filed their candidacies.
Manglona is running as an independent candidate for a seat in the House of Representatives Precinct 1, while Atalig is seeking a seat on the Rota Municipal Council.
Mendiola and Manglona filed their candidacies Friday, while Atalig did so on Thursday, Villagomez said. This brings to five the total number of people who have filed candidacies so far.
Rota Municipal Council chief of staff Lorita Mesngon Manglona was the first to file her candidacy.
Retired U.S. Navy Vincent Raymond Seman Aldan also filed his candidacy as an independent for a House Precinct 1 seat, making him the first one on Saipan to file a candidacy for this year’s election.
The CEC has been accepting the filing of petitions and candidacies since last July 6. Aug. 5 is the deadline to submit nominating petition and candidacy.
Villagomez reminded those who are running for office to submit their petitions for candidacy now as time is getting short.
Villagomez said she is sending a CEC staff to Tinian and Rota on Aug. 3 to accept petitions and to accept registrations.
The position for the U.S. delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives and 34 other government positions, excluding three from the Judiciary for retention, are up for grabs in the coming general election on Nov. 3.
The top seat for the coming election is the U.S. delegate to the House of Representatives, a position that has been held by Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan (Ind-MP) since he was elected in 2008.
