Man arrested for allegedly refusing to be quarantined

Police arrested Saturday a man who refused to undergo the mandatory COVID-19 quarantine upon arriving on the island.
The man, who had just arrived at the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport with his wife, a U.S. Homeland Security agent, was arrested for obstruction of justice and brought to the Department of Corrections where his temperature reading was recorded above 100° F. He was then brought to the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp., where he undertook the COVID-19 test. Results returned negative and he was brought back to DOC.
According to a CNMI Department of Public Safety statement of the incident, DPS received a call from the COVID-19 Task Force last July 11, 2020, at about 9:24am, requesting for assistance at the airport as two inbound passengers were refusing to undergo the mandatory COVID-19 quarantine upon arriving. Officers were sent to the scene and met with personnel from the COVID-19 Task Force, who stated that a couple had just arrived from an inbound flight and kept refusing to be brought to the Kanoa Resort in Susupe to undergo the mandatory quarantine. Officers spoke to the couple and the woman finally agreed, but the husband continued to be uncooperative.
The woman was brought to Kanoa Resort to undergo quarantine. All officers immediately underwent COVID-19 testing, where they all tested negative. As per protocol, the responding officers were also immediately put into quarantine at the Kanoa Resort in Susupe until the results of their follow up COVID-19 test return negative. (Saipan Tribune)
