A 24-year-old man accused of sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl pleaded guilty yesterday as part of a plea deal and was slapped with a 13-year prison term.

Peter Fritz Lizama pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree and was sentenced to 30 years in prison, with 17 years suspended. This was consistent with the sentence that assistant attorney general Samantha Vickery had recommended.

Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo ordered Lizama to serve the 13 years in prison without the possibility of parole. He was given credit for time served. After completing his prison term, he will serve an additional 10 years in probation.

Govendo required Lizama to register for the rest of his life as a sex offender and to pay all court costs and fees.

Chief Prosecutor John Bradley said this conviction and sentence goes a long way toward protecting an innocent victim of a terrible crime. “This crime was particularly heinous because of how the predator came into the victim’s home while she was sleeping,” Bradley said.

The Office of the Public Defender represented Lizama.

Police arrested Lizama in August 2018 after the girl reported that he had awakened her in her bed at home and sexually assaulted her. The girl said Lizama previously sexually assaulted her several times. The girl told police that it was the seventh time that Lizama sexually abused her and that the previous incidents happened in 2015.

Lizama confessed to the crimes when police brought him in for questioning.
