Short fistfight favors ‘The Crank’

Statistics-wise, Frank “The Crank” Camacho’s chances of winning over Matt “The Steamrolla” Frevola in next week’s UFC Fight Night 173 are higher if the duel will finish quickly.

In the tale of the tape between the two MMA fighters, Camacho’s winning percentage in bouts decided via KO/TKO is 72% (16 wins) compared to Frevola’s measly 13% (out of his eight victories, he recorded just one off TKO/KO). While the 30-year-old is not known for going for the kill early, Frevola’s percentage in matches won via either submission or decision is better than Camacho’s. The New York native has a winning percentage of 37 via submission and 50 off decision, while Camacho’s numbers read at both 14%.

A standup fight would also favor the Marianas warrior, as he averaged 6.68 significant strikes per minute compared to Frevola’s 3.19. Camacho’s strikes accuracy, as expected, is better than his opponent, 46%-39%.

If the collision between Camacho and Frevola goes down to the canvas, Frevola’s grappling skills will be very useful. Frevola, who holds a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, averaged 3.30 takedowns (per 15 minutes), while Camacho only had 1.18. The Longo & Weidman MMA standout also had a better number defending a takedown with his 75% against Camacho’s 72%.

In other stats, Camacho and Frevola are pretty even with the former’s arm reach at 73 inches against the latter’s 71. Frevola has the slight edge in the leg reach at 40 compared to Camacho’s 38. The 5’10” Camacho and 5’9” Frevola both have an orthodox fighting stance.

The 31-year old Camacho and Frevola will slug it out in a lightweight class on June 20 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. Camacho will be gunning for his 23rd win in 31 fights, while Frevola will be eyeing his ninth victory in 11 matches.

The Camacho-Frevola tussle will be the seventh supporting bout to the main event that will feature Illinois’ Curtis Blaydes and Russia’s Alexander Volkov.
