The passing of Richard Jones: Adios Richard

Share

Although Faythe, I, and other family members of Richard are thousands of miles away and travel is so restricted even for those in Guam, we will all be there in spirit to comfort and support our family and friends in celebrating the life that Richard lived.

Richard and his loving wife, Faye, have been together for about 50 years and what a time it has been, and Saipan has been home for them for almost four decades.

During that half a century of the life of Richard, he had a tapestry of experiences, adventure, travel, and the love of family and friends.

It is with a deep sense of sorrow and gratitude that we relay this message today.

The sorrow is because we have lost an exceptional friend and family member who was dear to those who loved and cared for him.

His treasure chest of experiences, knowledge and warmth for others has touched many, and hence, our gratefulness for having had the opportunity to be in his world for many years.

Many words come to mind when we think of Richard, but a few stand out for us, which are fortitude, meaning the strength of mind and character that allows one to endure pain or adversity with courage. His fortitude was in full display, having encountered an illness for the last few years and yet maintained a good and positive disposition, despite being in severe discomfort and a loss of his mobility.

The other words that come to mind are honesty and integrity, which was an inherent part of Richard’s character, which we have seen expressed on many occasions.

When talking to Amber, our daughter, he would ask: What is the most important day of the year? He taught her at an early age that it was May 26, his birthday. And here we are only a few days after what would have been his 73rd birthday.

Richard passed away on May 11, in his bed at his home with his loving wife Faye.

He will be missed by many and his family, friends, and others can all take solace by being a part of his world, and with the memories and legacy that can, and will, for sure be remembered.
