Sylvestre Rogopes Sablan, who is serving a 25-year prison term for killing his wife, was slapped Thursday with another 30-day prison sentence for assaulting a fellow inmate at the Department of Corrections in Susupe.

Sablan, 48, pleaded guilty to assault and battery as part of a plea deal and was sentenced to the full maximum 30-day imprisonment, to run consecutive to the prison term he is currently serving in the murder case. This means he will serve a total of 25 years plus 30 days in prison.

According to the plea agreement, Sablan hit Godfrey Sablan Mendiola on Sept. 10, 2019, in the face. Mendiola is serving an eight-year prison term for sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl on Tinian in 2017.

Assistant public defender Jean Pierre Nogues served as counsel for Sablan. Assistant attorney general Chester Hinds appeared for the government.
