The group Friends of CWs held their fifth distribution of care packages last week at the West Harbor in Songsong, Rota, giving away 150 care packages to contract workers and humanitarian parolees.

The care packages included rice, canned goods, coffee, noodles, butane gas canisters, toilet paper, garlic, and onion.

Volunteer Irene Holl thanked Hardt Eye Clinic, Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. staff, anonymous donors, and individuals for their donations and assistance. The donations benefited foreign workers on Rota who are unemployed and furloughed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We thank the companies and individuals who helped make all the five distribution possible, with both donors and volunteers. About 532 households have received assistance, including Rota,” she said

The Friends of CWs has so far held four package distribution on Saipan and one on Rota. “We also thank Senate President Victor Hocog and Mayor Efraim Atalig for helping us plan and facilitate the distribution,” added Holl.

Holl said the remaining packages were left with Fr. Rey Rosal to continue with the distribution since her team had to leave for Saipan on Sunday morning. “I thank Father Rey Rosal as well for helping with the care packages,” she said.

Holl also acknowledged the Rotary Club of Saipan for sharing their chartered plane and the three boats that took their care packages to Rota.

Three other volunteers—Alma Basilgo, Ladyvir Canape, and Danny Borlain—joined Holl during the group’s distribution on Rota. (Chevy Alipio)
