ACS target date pushed back
The target date for the completion of the Alternative Care Site, which is meant to isolate active COVID-19 cases, at the Kanoa Resort in Susupe has been pushed back from May 25 to May 28.
According to Warren Villagomez, the Governor’s COVID-19 Task Force chairman, 80% of the medical equipment is on island, but there is still critical medical equipment that are on the way and should be coming in today or late this evening.
“We want to make sure that all the equipment and the standard of care is not being compromised if we open the services now, and those are the factors for the slight delay” said Villagomez.
The idea is to have a specific place where all COVID-19 cases will be handled outside the main hospital, thus enabling the hospital to handle people who do not have COVID-19. The Alternative Care Site will be converted back into a hotel once the CNMI is able to stamp out the coronavirus.
Helios Energy Group is the prime designer, which is the contractor behind the renovation work at the ACS.
To date, the CNMI has 22 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 13 recoveries, two deaths, and seven active cases.
Mass testing on Rota and Tinian
A week after announcing that mass testing for COVID-19 on Rota and Tinian, Esther Muña, Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. chief executive officer, confirmed that, so far, they all got negative results.
On CHCC’s official website, a total of 192 individuals on Tinian and 282 individuals on Rota have gotten tested.
Tinian Mayor Edwin P. Aldan stated that on the first day of the mass testing, Tinian tested only around 50 individuals but that number went up days after. “I encourage the community to please come down to the health center and get tested. It’s not only for sense of security for the community but also for our family,” said Aldan. He himself was tested last May 20 and is waiting for his results.
