Kinpachi BBQ Garden Restaurant to reopen
One of the oldest Japanese restaurants on Saipan will reopen its open-air restaurant this week nearly a month after COVID-19 concerns closed operations.
Kinpachi Restaurant manager Sonia Siwa said they are targeting to reopen the Kinpachi BBQ Garden Restaurant tomorrow, May 28.
“We would like to inform our valued customers that our menu for dine-in and for take-out are mostly our [popular] $1 barbecue chicken and pork in a stick,” she said. Also on the menu are katsudon, fried chicken, tonkatsu, and grilled saba fish and squid. Kinpachi BBQ Garden Restaurant’s $8 barbecue set menu (choice of grilled porkchop or short ribs with a stick of barbecue) is also available.

For more hearty dishes, Siwa said customers can still order from Kinpachi Restaurant’s main menu despite dining at the open-air outlet. Available for order in the regular menu are ramen, udon, soba, curry rice, katsu curry, and chicken katsu curry, to name a few.
Zero sales
Siwa said Kinpachi Restaurant’s operation suffered greatly due to coronavirus pandemic as they have had zero sales since closing shop last March 24.
“Our employees were temporarily laid off except our maintenance and they were working on reduced hours,” she said.
Siwa added their owner, Misako Kamata, decided to close the business for the protection of both employees and customers. Kamata also took care of her staff during the time they were furloughed.
“Our employees [who were] staying in the company barracks were provided free food—breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Misako-san assigned one cook to prepare the meals for our employees,” she said.
Kinpachi BBQ Garden Restaurant will be open starting this week for lunch, 11am-2pm, for take-out orders only and for dinner, 5pm-7pm, for dine-in but strictly following social distancing guidelines of seating arrangements 6 feet apart.
Kinpachi Restaurant is located along Coral Tree Avenue in the heart of Paseo de Marianas. For reservations or for more information, call 234-6900 and 233-7715.
