WiFi on Wheels expands free WiFi access

After a trial run in the Kagman area, the CNMI Public School System’s WiFi on Wheels, or WOW, program will be expanding free wireless internet to students and families in the following areas starting tomorrow, May 26:

Tuesdays and Wednesdays: Central cluster from 9:30am to 11:30am (Locations: Garapan Round House, Minatchom Attdao, 13 Fisherman Pavilion, Mt. Carmel Church Open Field, San Vicente Roundhouse)

Thursdays and Fridays: Southern cluster from 9:30am to 11:30am (Locations: Dandan Baseball Field, Kobler Basketball Court, San Antonio Basketball Court, Kobler Park Across Tottotville, CPA Airport Field)

Mondays (starting June 1): Northeastern cluster from 9:30am to 11:30am (Locations: Santa Soledad Church Field, Capital Hill Baseball Field, Kagman Community Center, San Roque Church, Tanapag Youth Center)

WOW initiative

Due to COVID-19, many students are relying on learning from home, but not every family has equitable access to the internet. Therefore, the WOW initiative was developed to allow the continuation of learning enrichment, communication, and access to information for students and community members who do not have free access to the internet. PSS has equipped its school buses with WiFi capabilities and will mobilize them to locations throughout Saipan, with Tinian and Rota launched on June 1. Community members must bring their own devices to connect to the free WiFi, and content filtering is programmed to avoid access to inappropriate sites.

Maintain social distancing

The WOW Initiative will be practicing social distancing and safety measures for the protection of the public. Visitors are encouraged to drive to the locations and connect to the internet while remaining in their cars. Walkers are also permitted within the vicinity but must wear a mask or face covering and avoid close contact with others.
