BMV to re-issue driver’s licenses printed with error
The CNMI Department of Public Safety’s Bureau of Motor Vehicle noticed an error during the printing process of some recently issued driver’s licenses. A newly printed driver’s license typically expires within the term of three years; however, an inadvertent error had allowed some driver’s licenses to print with a one-year expiration date.
The department would like to apologize for the inconvenience and assure license holders that a new license will be printed at no extra charge, with the corrected three-year expiration date.
This error applies both to contract workers and CNMI citizens. If you notice an error on your license, visit the BMV during operational hours for a re-print.
When re-applying for a driver’s license or for a re-print of a driver’s license, we ask that you provide all your supporting documents when doing so.
When applying for a REAL-ID compliant driver’s license supporting documents include:
1. A valid U.S. Passport
2. Original Social Security Card
3. Two documents with a proof of address (which can be obtained from a car registration, and insurance card or statement, utility bill, cellular or phone bill, lease agreement, bank statement, etc.)
When applying for a regular driver’s license that is not REAL ID compliant, supporting documents include:
1. Passport (U.S. or foreign passport)
2. Document with current immigration status
3. Your expired driver’s license
BMV’s hours of operation are Monday – Friday:
• 8am – 11am: document drop-off for vehicle and/or watercraft registration renewal
• 8am – 11am: walk-in for driver’s license renewal
• 8am – 11am: updated document(s) pick-up
BMV will be accepting incoming documents and will be processing these documents for next-day pick-up.
At this time BMV is still processing documents of those who have expired driver’s licenses and vehicle/watercraft registrations during the month of March or earlier. Registrations that have expired beginning April 1, 2020, are asked to await the official announcement when BMV will be able to process those registrations and documents.
To prevent the machines from overheating and to prevent premature machine failure the BMV office will be processing a maximum of 50 driver’s license prints per day.
