Cotton Masks For COVID-19 Times

muffled voices are heard in the supermarket
all the rage now some funny ones are seen
drive to the store put one on when you park it
businesses market masks on social media
sport team animals and birds appear daily
with enough logos to fill an encyclopedia
flowery prints parade across mouths gaily
I’m now wearing bandanas southwestern style
to go with cowboy hats: beaver, felt, and straw
a bandido going down the grocery store aisle
but no gunslinger, no guns quick on the draw
masked bandits use them to rob a bank or store
I can’t wait until we wear virus masks no more.

My Life is But a Dream
I’m much like an old horny toad
catching flies by the side of the road
from inside me I don’t mind it
it’s only me living behind it
if a car hits me I’ll explode
I’ve often thought I was a homely old fool
enjoying self learning and teaching school
I could always find ways to entertain myself
with music dance and books off the shelf
and gladly wading into life’s complex pool
I’m happy alive and well and giving life a bit of hell
enjoying sights sounds tastes touch and smell
there are challenges and compromise to be made
on Tinian and Las Vegas I’m dreaming in the shade
how when and where I’ll wind up only time will tell
