The Tan Siu Lin Foundation donated over $3,000 worth of relief goods to Lions Clubs International District 204, which the club distributed to over 200 families.
Lions Clubs International District 204, Region 2 received a donation from Tan Siu Lin Foundation last Sunday, which consisted of items like cereals, fresh milk, juicy juice, peanut butter, and SPAM products worth $3,500 that were later distributed to 202 families and individuals.
The six clubs under District 204, Region 2 gave away the items in Kagman, Koblerville, Chalan Kanoa, San Antonio, Dandan, and Garapan, giving away 32-35 care packages per location.
“We are so grateful for the donation of TSL Foundation, especially to Mr. Jerry Tan and to the TSLF executive director Ms. Merlie Tolentino for accommodating our request,” said Region 2 chair Annamae Adaza.
Adaza added that the Lions Club is also thankful for the support of Atoy Banting, the district’s vice district governor elect, and zone chairs Al Cabael and Argie Buensalido.
Adaza said many are still asking for care packages, but the club can only do so much as they are also dependent on donors like the TSL Foundation.
Earlier this month, the Lion’s Club Region 2 helped 30 families by giving each $35 vouchers to purchase food and other necessities. The club also distributed 20 meals from Kentucky Fried Chicken to people in the Chalan Kanoa area who are living in tents.
Prior to the KFC meals, Region 2 held a relief good distribution that served 86 recipients. The club gave away packages that included a case of cup noodles and a pack of butane.
The District 204, Region 2 is composed of six clubs that include Saipan Fil-American Lions Club led by Eden Mercado, Saipan Unity LC led by Elizabeth Escober, Saipan Marianas LC led by Ladyvir Canape, Saipan Alliance LC led by Danny Robles, Saipan Natibu LC led by Manny Castro, and Saipan Centennial LC led by Arceli Lizama.
Each Lion’s Club is autonomous, which means each club can create their own fundraisers and projects but all six clubs can work as one under Region 2. To learn more about Lion’s Club International, you can visit their website at www.lionsclubs.org.
