Da’ok Academy construction is a go

The construction of the new Da’Ok Academy is set to begin soon, according to Board of Education vice chair Herman Atalig, who oversees the committee that is tasked with campus development under the Public School System.
According to Atalig, they received a notice to proceed with the construction of the new Da’Ok Academy last week.
The new facility will be built at the Saipan Southern High School campus.
Da’ok Academy principal Jonathan Aguon said the decision to build the academy at the SSHS campus came to be because, compared to the academy’s original site at Marianas High School, SSHS is much bigger and can accommodate the facility.
The proposed facility includes a total of five classrooms for all five Da’ok Academy teachers, two office spaces, and an assembly area that will double as a cafeteria.
Aguon added that relocating the campus to SSHS instead of MHS would provide Da’ok Academy with field space that they never had. Ultimately, Aguon said, relocating to SHSS would be better for the school’s students in the long run since the Northern Marianas Technical Institute, which works in partnership with the academy, is also relocating to the south.
According to Saipan Tribune archives, the Federal Emergency Management Agency allocated $1.5 million to rebuild the Da’ok Academy, which is a school for at-risk youth.
